HudsonWay Immersion School (52nd & 10th)
Upper West Side
Founded in 2005, HudsonWay Immersion School (HWIS) stands as a pioneer in dual-language education, being the first independent Mandarin and Spanish immersion school in the New York City/New Jersey metropolitan area. The Midtown West campus, situated at 525 W 52nd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues, serves students from preschool (age 2) through Grade 8.
The school's curriculum is designed to develop biliterate, emotionally intelligent young adults who are well-prepared for a global future. Students receive instruction in Mandarin or Spanish alongside English, covering a breadth of academic subjects including language arts, math, science, and social studies.
The 20,000 sq. ft. facility boasts 17 classrooms, a music room, art/maker space, gym, science lab, library, and a teaching kitchen. Its location is conveniently one block from Clinton DeWitt Park.
HWIS prides itself on a diverse community, with 80% of families not speaking the target language at home, and 70% of students being students of color. The school maintains a low student-to-teacher ratio of 6:1, ensuring personalized attention for each child.
Additional offerings include after-school enrichment programs, extended care options, and free MetroCards and Upper West Side bus service for students in kindergarten and above.
